Remote.co has tons of listings, but every single one I clicked on was no longer available. Apparently they don’t update their links often, if at all.

My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find most of your
post’s to be precisely what I’m looking for. Would you offer guest writers
to write content in your case? I wouldn’t mind producing a post or elaborating
on some of the subjects you write related to here.
    Again, awesome site!

don’t forget Jobbatical.com – we connect globally minded companies offering relocation to talent wanting to take their career abroad.

Agreed! I am on the hunt for a remote position. I just started the hunting process, but Jobbatical is a really easy site to use. They even let you save job postings which is a tool that I have found other sites don’t provide. You also have the ability up upload your resume to provide yourself with more opportunities.

Important to add that Flexjobs (the 1st one you recommend) charges you to look for a job, which was unheard of for me…

A number of these sites do. And they charge the employers as well!

  51. John Replied

Indeed has no method of specifying remote only positions.
In this respect, its completely useless. It really doesn’t belong on a list of place to find remote jobs.

    • RC Replied

This is not true. If you go to the site and enter the word “Remote” in the WHERE field at the top, this will result in remote and work from home jobs.

  52. WEMO Replied

    Try wemo.work

  53. Lauren Replied

This is a very good list. Is any of these sites good for people with little or no working experience in web development or web design? Or will it be best if they turn to freelancing sites, such as Fiverr?

For those who have always wanted to work on public health in Africa, or economic development in India, but weren t willing to uproot from your friends, family, and country, Idealist.org has the opportunities for you. In addition to the ones mentioned on your list, I would add a marketplace that was built as a matchmaking site for freelancers. The result is that companies as well as freelancers save significant amount of time in the search for the right job and right professional for the task. Workhoppers.com has a powerful matching algorithm to find the right expert for the task.

Nice list but it now seems to be outdated as we dont have Elance or Odesk anymore, both sites have merged to become one single Upwork.com. I have worked on mostly all freelance websites but eventually, it is always better to look for direct work in order to get a steady flow of projects.

I don’t know what staff.com was like in 2014 when this article was written, but there are no recruiters, and it’s full of scammers posting fake job listings using the names of legitimate companies to “interview” you in order to get enough information to attempt to steal your identity. Contacting support goes no where and the “jobs” are never removed.

  65. dennisjacobs Replied

Great article. I’d also say that applying for remote jobs is very different from applying to regular jobs, and applications often get ignored due to there being so much competition.

I would add a site like howtofindaremotejob.com to the mix if you want to focus on strategy.

  76. susan clark Replied

I thank you Leslie for your blog input, this is informative and has given my son( *it major) and I some clues as to what we should be looking at as far as telecommuting goes. You put a lot of time in this project. I only knew of about 4 or 5 of the listed companies. I am sure there are more, but your list is pretty thorough. Thank you again you saved  me from dishing out 19.00 a month. I am working on a list that displays companies who charge per month and year for online workers. A project of my own, I will not charge for this info either. It should be free. Kudos to you and if i could I would buy you a cup of coffee for a donation or something, at least.

  81. Lana Replied

Any rudimentary googling of multi-level-marketing will tell you what a terrible investment it is. I certainly don’t think you should promote them as a means of financial freedom or a good option for a remote job.

A report produced on 11 popular MLM’s showed “99% of all distributors in these companies earned on average less than $13 a week in commission income. (In 10 of the 11 companies, the commissions were less than $10 a week.) This isn’t even enough money to cover the minimum purchases they’re required to make in order to “qualify” for commissions.”
